This is a basic item to cover the drain. it also helps keep small utensils and items from heading down the drain. The cover looks nice when used. Essential? no, nice to have? yes.

So you don’t have to see the waste in your strainer? That’s not a good thing. It will build up and eventually stink to high heaven. Not to mention back up once the strainer is full. Big waste of money.
