Purchased matte black duostrainer in May 2022 and had installed by licensed plumber the following week. Three and a half months later, the finish has peeled and flaked off. I really like how the strainer works but am highly disappointed and frustrated by the finish not holding up at all.

So happy I bought this product to replace the over priced faulty plastic one sold as the only option at a big box store. The old strainer was constantly allowing debris to get underneath the basket and caught in the drain. Kohler’s drain and strainer are easy to install and work exactly as expected keeping debris out of your drain and maintain a watertight seal for filling your sink. The strainer is well constructed and made of all metal unlike a lot of other options out there. The wide range of finishes allowed me to perfectly match my faucet.

Got this drain in matte black and it looked great to match our faucets, but the finish started peeling after a few weeks. We returned it and got a new one only to have it peel within the first few days of very light use. I sincerely hope the finish holds up better on the faucets!

We have the duo strainer in matte black as well as the disposal flange and trim. They both chipped within weeks of moving into our newly built home. We used the recommended Kohler cleaning products, sink grids and Dawn dish liquid.

I bought it go have it match my recently purchased oil rubbed bronze Kholer faucet. But the strainer although it says its oil rubbed bronze it is NOT is plain black.

Paid plumber 100$ to install a 100$ drain. Plumber was worth the money but the drain wasn’t. From the description I was led to believe that this is a bronze and brass drain, neither of which looks like stainless steel, whish is what appears beneath the peeling paint.

Bought these 1 week ago, thought I bought a high quality item with Kohler name on it, but turns out I was wrong, coating peeling already, what a disappointment, my sink is a Kohler cast iron. I hope that holds up, kind of of worried that coating is going to be weak and start chipping as well

We bought these drains to go with our new kitchen. Within a few months the black is peeling off. There was no hard scrubbing just dish soap was used. Very disappointing

I purchased this in September 2022 for my kitchen sink in Matte Black. The finish on this item is already coming off and exposing the chrome below. It looks awful. Unfortunatly this was professionally installed by a plumber so now I have to rehire someone to switch out. Very disappointing.

Another quality Kohler product. Perfect strainer, easy to install and mates to 1 1/2 inch p-trap. Really finishes off the sink nicely. The only reason this is not a “5” rating is due to the Item being advertised to include the tailpipe, but alas Lowe’s misrepresented the item description yet again. Not the first time I’ve received an item that didn’t match the advertised description…seem to be a systemic issue that needs to fix for online shopping

I purchased this along with a Kohler double bowl sink. I spent the extra money to buy a nice Kohler sink drain and strainer and it is such a waste of money. The stopper will not retain the water in the sink. I called Kohler when I first noticed and they sent me a new strainer basket and O-ring. I was really hoping this would be the solution but it is not. Now I have a new sink that will not hold water.

Less then a month of use- black chipping off on both strainers purchased. Very disappointed- we even purchased racks for inside sink- have not used any cleaners. My husband will now have to disconnect entire plumbing to fix. Very disappointed.

Spent the extra money, installed it and within about a month the black was completely chipped off. I was under the impression it was baked black and not just painted. If I was wanting a stainless steel, that is what i would have bought. Unfortunately, that will be what it is in the end. Save your money you’re looking a black basket.

I have a 40 plus year old Kohler vault toilet which is still going strong. When looking for a new kitchen sink I figured I’d go with Kohler and also paired it with these strainers and baskets. I love the design of the double sink but the ceramic finish is crap. Despite using the Kohler cleaning product for the sinks the finish is worn and stains very easily. After a year or so the strainers and baskets began to leak. I now have to fiddle with the basket and pour a small amount of water into the sink to make sure it’s not leaking. Maybe the rubber ring gasket at the base of the strainer needs to be replaced. In any event it seems that this is a prevalent issue with this particular basket and strainer so I am not alone in this regard. It seems as though Kohler products may not be as reliable as they once were. Very disappointed.

I bought and installed the drain and that part went great. Heavy duty material like you’d expect from Kohler. The drain itself functions like it should. The stopper, on other hand, will not seal in a manner tha allows it to hold water. I bought another one to see if maybe my first one was simply defective but it did the exact same thing.

Ordered these drains and then they sat in the box for about 4 months (typical project delays). The drains initially looked and worked great. The first drain’s rim began chipping after about a month. The second drain started after about three months.
Both drains have now broken as well. A small metal fitting has come loose causing the “duo strainer” portion to just flop around.
I expected more it of a Kohler product.

So far so good. It was easy to install and looks great. Very sturdy piece. I’m waiting to see if anything peels off or it becomes discolored like other sink drains I’ve previously installed. This is the first Kohler unit we’ve purchased and I’m hoping for the best.

I purchased the black duo strainer to match the new black Koehler sink. In less than one month the black finish flaked off and exposed a chrome finish. Poor quality and high price.

Installed two months and coating coming off. I payed extra for a higher quality product and got garbage. You could easily buy a cheap one and spray paint it and would last longer than this product. complete garbage

Within 2 months of installing, the black paint has chipped off terribly. This is a huge letdown, as I searched many places for a matte black strainer and basket. The black ones are much more expensive, so this is a shame.

We bought these when we purchased our black composite kitchen sink. They looked absolutely beautiful with the sink. My husband and I were always very careful cleaning the sink so as not to get scratches, per other reviews we read. After about 3-4 months we noticed some scratches, even though we were always careful. Once they started it just kept getting worse and worse. We don’t know what to do! It looks awful but hate to pay that much and have it happen again.

We built a new home and moved in February 2023. It has only been 7 months and the paint from the basket is already peeling. I went with a less expensive brand for my garbage disposal side and have had no issues with that. For the price you’d think Kohler would stand behind this.

I bought two of these less than a week ago to use in our Kohler sink. I installed them last night and they DO NOT HOLD WATER! I read the reviews AFTER I bought the drains and see where removing the o-ring will solve the problem. SADLY that doesn’t help! I wish I hadn’t of thrown the packages away so I could return these overpriced, underperforming sink drains….VERY DISSATISFIED!!!

I’ve attempted to purchase the K-8799-2BZ twice. Both times I’ve received R8799-C-BL.
Returning to the store, they will only give me in-store credit that cannot be used online, and my local store does not stock the K-8799-2BZ so I won’t be trying this a third time.
Don’t attempt to buy this. You will get matte black, even if you pay the $20 extra for oil rubbed bronze.

We bought the Matte black duostrainer sink drain and strainer basket to go in our new gray kitchen sink in July. over the last two weeks pieces of the black have been peeling off the sink drain. We have been very careful with cleaning our new sink and drain. No scrubbing with anything abrasive. Only used sponge cloth and dawn dish liquid. So disappointed that it looks terrible after just a few months.

The Sink drain and strainer basket, less tailpiece – color black – looks just fine in my black cast iron sink. It sticks up a tad, meaning it is not flush with the sink drain hole, so water does not drain all the way after the water is off. I think this is not the drain assembly’s fault though. The plumber said most cast iron sink drain holes now-a-days don’t seem to be built “normal” to allow for “flush” drain installations. I cannot speak to the durability of the Kohler drain and strainer basket since it has been installed only 1 month.

We JUST finished our kitchen remodel in November of 2021… less than 3 full months later and this strainer is chipping! Not sure why Kohler would paint over stainless and expect it to hold up in a sink of all places but I’m super bummed about this. 🙁

So happy with my replacement sink strainer basket! The previous owner of my home had detroyed the black basket and it looked horrible in my white farmhouse sink. This replacement has made my sink look brand new!
